If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by the prospect of branding yourself as a designer, you’re not alone. I see you—the woman leading her own path, building her business, and ready to celebrate every inch of her creative journey. That’s why I’m thrilled to share the story behind a recent personal branding photoshoot for fashion designers I had the honor of capturing for Suzy Wakefield, founder of Suzy Wakefield Designs.

The Heart of Creative Process Photography
Suzy’s approach to her work goes well beyond beautiful garments; it’s steeped in story, substance, and heart. Suzy’s signature photos are those that invite you right into her creative process—images that reveal the tactile, hands-on magic of her design journey. Each shot is captured as she truly works: sorting fabric swatches, pinning colors, or sketching on her iPad, surrounded by the textures and personal touches of her home studio. This approach gives every photo an authenticity and intimacy you simply can’t stage.
Suzy’s home is a sanctuary for inspiration—everywhere you look, stacks of coffee table books stacked on side tables, from fashion bibles to bold design tomes. She isn’t just a designer; she’s a true collector. Her shelves and surfaces are layered with well-loved volumes and visual souvenirs, each one a spark of creativity fueling her process. During our shoot, it was important to show this side of Suzy: we leaned into her love of books and styled shots with her propped up on her favorite stacks or simply surrounded by the pages and titles that have shaped her career. These aren’t just set dressing—her collection is as much a part of her story as the fabric swatches and color bins. It’s the visible proof of a life lived in creative pursuit, and it shows in every image we captured.

“My superpower is in using my 20+ years of design experience to guide clients past all the pitfalls,” Suzy shared during our shoot. “Every phase of creation—concept, planning, development—is a chance to help new brands stand tall in this industry.”
As both photographer and storyteller, my job was to make sure Suzy’s confidence and commitment were center stage. We focused on context: natural light, tactile props, and movement, capturing her signature gestures as she pinned swatches and leafed through sketchbooks. Our personal branding photoshoot for fashion designers wasn’t about stiff headshots. It was about visual storytelling and letting the authenticity speak for itself.

Women-Led Business Branding, by Women for Women
As women entrepreneurs, we both know branding is personal. It’s about more than a logo—it’s about standing tall in your truth and telling the story only you can tell. Suzy’s career is testament to what happens when you combine passion, expertise, and a community-first approach. She mentors up-and-coming designers and serves her clients with the kind of care you won’t find in a formulaic agency.
One of my favorite shoot moments? When Suzy paused, hands artfully covered in graphite from her sketches, and said, “Fashion isn’t just about what you wear. It’s about the story you’re living, the choices you make, and the legacy you want to leave.”
From there, the lens did the talking—celebrating the power of women-led business branding and reminding every woman entrepreneur: you are your brand’s best storyteller. Let’s stop hiding behind “shoulds” and start showing up as our full, glorious selves.
